With their original lyrics, distinctive voice, and upbeat sound, Dear Maybe earns recognition by giving birth to their version of alternative/indie rock. It's like the heading of a letter that was never sent or read. Or maybe it's letters or thoughts that you should have written. Yup, it's all those things.
Dear Maybe is a three-piece band based just outside of Detroit, MI. They play original alternative/indie rock, with influences that include The Cure, Radiohead, At the Drive-In, and Smashing Pumpkins. The core members of Dear Maybe, Jeff (guitar/vocals) and Bob (drums), have known each other for over fourteen years. Paul (bass) is the newest member to the band.
Jeff and Bob were in a band together in the '90s. They played shows on a regular basis until Bob moved to Boston, where he attended Berklee College of Music. Jeff continued writing and recording on his own. He sat in with several bands, but couldn't find what he was looking for musically.
After playing with two semi-successful bands in Boston, Bob moved back to Metro Detroit in late 2000. He was soon playing again with Jeff. This was the beginning of Dear Maybe. In early 2001 they hired a second guitarist and started playing songs that Jeff had already written. In late 2001 they hired a bassist and the line-up was set.
They recorded "Sincerely, EP3" in the spring of 2002. Shortly after this, the second guitarist left the band. The remaining members decided to continue as a three-piece and began playing out in October 2002. Paul, who had filled in on bass once before, joined the band permanently in late 2004. In the summer of 2005, Dear Maybe went on their first tour with stops that included Chicago, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh. They ended 2005 with a mini-tour to Louisville, KY and Chicago. During 2006, the attention of the band was shifted more towards higher education. Although less shows were played, the intensity and dedication were just as high.
In addition to releasing their latest EP, "In Failed Attempts," Dear Maybe is currently playing venues and writing new material. An East Coast tour is also being planned for summer 2008.
